Paeras

Fallen Angel of Futility

Hopeless. One of the first humans turned Angels. He is the oldest of the chosen Angels.
Paeras began to change when he was sent continuously into hell to fight the demons.
He was losing hope. Watching his brethren fall and the might of the demons increase,
Paeras wished no more of the fighting and disappeared deep into Hell.
The other angels not knowing what happened to Paeras say he died in combat.
It is not till thousands of years later that he is found.
He had taken refuge in the first level of Hell, the level of lust.
The 'Lord' of Lust had taken him under his wing and promised him peace.
The Angel of Dust is seen always at the end of a Great battle between angels and Demons,
he decays the bodies of the fallen demons and angels until their is nothing left upon the battle field.
This is how he has earned the title Angel of Decay.
If their are those still alive upon this field, they meet a quick death at his hands.
He is merciless and remorseless.

It is often wondered what will happen when there is nothing left to be achieved.
When we hold the stars of the sky in our hands and snuff them out with but a flick of the wrist.
What will we do when we realise that whatever thought we have had has been thought before?

There are two possible fates for humanity.
The complete conquering of the world, or the annihilation of their kind.
I find both endings horrifying.

After all is done, there are no mountains left to conquer.
No diseases left to cure. No edifice beyond construction.
What will we do? Where will we go? Where will we run?
What will we scream when we realize the truth?
Will we smash our cities and sleep under the rubble?
Will we burn it all, eclipse the stars we command,
With the ashes of reality?
Will we plant a seed in that ash and pray,
For a new beginning?
What will we do?
Surrounded on all sides by our meaningless victories.
We will do all that is left to do.
To seek beauty in destruction.
To seek an angel in decay.
