Racial Character Modifications

Other Racial Modifications

Elves are Naturally Vegetarian, eating meat will make an Elf nauseous.

Rebirth: An elf has/or could have had a a life or two already, and remember these lives. Speak to DM about this.

Elven males and females may become pregnant by their own Gender by asking the Goddess of Elves.

Elven pregnancy for males lasts 6 months, the last 3 months, all magical powers are unreachable. Elven pregnancy for females is 2 years, last year, all magical powers are unreachable. 5% chance of pregnancy naturally for women. Male physiology is changed to take on the pregnancy.

Heat/Cold: Elves do not feel heat or cold, that does not mean however that they are resistant. They will suffer heat stroke and hypothermia like others, they only way an Elve can know the onset of these is through dizziness, numbness or other bodily reactions. Not the actual temperature itself.

Elven Classes: If a class is specifically for Elves only it does not exist in this world, the knowledge of Elven fighting styles has been lost.

Elven Weaponry: Mithral does exist in this world however it is very rare and will be allowed at the DM's discretion, and this also included weapons and armor with 'Elve' in the name. Magical items that apply only to Elves are also up to the DM's discretion.

Elven Empathy: The capacity to recognize and to some extent, share and feel the emotions (such as sadness or happiness) that are being experienced by another sentient being.

Radiance/Glow: When an Elf is filled with great joy or finds themselves beneath the trees of the Mellim'disiel they will shine, glow like a star in the heavens. The High Elves and Desert Elves shine gold, the Wood Elves and Shadow Elves shine silver.

Personality and Practices

It is difficult for humans to understand the character of the Sere'th, as they display a sometimes paradoxical blend of qualities. They are a peaceful, gentle people as a rule, light-hearted and fond of every kind of joke yet they take matters of honor in deadly seriousness. They reply to petty insults with disdain and serious insults with contempt. They are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them.Elves are generous, charming, forgiving and gracious hosts and yet, at times, their arrogance can be well-nigh insufferable. Many blatantly regard themselves as superior to any other race, with the possible exception of Fae, whom they seem to respect nearly upon the same level.

Elves are philosophical in most things, and the classic Sere'th arrogance most often displays itself as a mild distaste for other races and their company. This distaste is very seldom elevated to the passion that one might call hatred. Elves wish humans to understand this: The elves humans tend to meet abroad, are those that have lived among human kind for some generation or are wanderers. Most likely exiled.

The Elves are not wholly good or in the right. They wish to live in the ages of old because they have become fond of them (and perhaps because they there had the advantages of a superior caste), and so they try to stop the world in its change and history, stop its growth, keep it as a pleasurance, where they could be the 'artists' that shape the world around them and they become overburdened with sadness and nostalgic regret for an ageless past, static and unchanging.

The society and change of man looks like social chaos to the Sere'th. The entire existential experience is different between Elves and Men in that the literal experience of time is felt in a different manner and they have a different physcology because of it.  Urgency is experienced differently and created by different circumstances within the Elven framework. Elvish society undergoes extreme changes over the course of eons but this change comes to it in the slow, deep fashion of the change of the world itself, but that it is perceived by the Elves who live in the society in perfect measure meant for their immortal lives.

Elven maturity on Camar’a Sere’th is 200 years of Age, (1 human year = 10 Elven years for the first 200 years.) This only applies if the Elf grew up surrounded by entirely Elves, such as living in the Elven sacred homeland of the Mellim’dis’iel. Otherwise Elven children mature quicker, such as in the case of trauma or having mainly humans around them as children. Then they may be 'Mature' between 150-100. Having a past life of remembered memories may also quicken this process. The more substantial (full or better remembered) the memories are the more mature the Elf will be at birth, emotionally and mentally speaking.

Elves do not suffer sickness, poison or aging. The health of their bodies is supported by the might of their Th’ies (Soul). But even a race of immortals is made of the world, and their body is not as enduring as their spirits; the Sere’th’s longevity comes from their Th’ies.  The soul spark made from distant stars strengthens the body into adulthood and would only begin to weaken in ancient age.

Death for Elves is brought on in three manners:

Violent means (Slaying) Death in combat or murder/assassination. Although bodily death isn’t necessarily final for elves, that doesn’t make the act of dying any less traumatizing. Regardless of race, watching someone you care about be violently killed causes suffering. Knowing that they are likely to be reborn with memories intact can be a comfort, but for some immortals, they wonder how long it will be until they get to see their loved ones again. There has been much death in combat for the Elves and they have tried to more recently, to be politically neutral in world affairs. The risks of battle and war always outweigh the possible benefits and most Elves do not believe the lives of immortals are worth the risks. This has been linked back to the view of their arrogance and superiority to mankind when the Elven nations will not give aid to outsiders.

Completion of their Destiny (Shimmering)  – Goddess of the Stars, Sila Vor and Goddess of Fate, Wan’an’iena, together spin the webs of the First Born. With these destines complete the First Born could pass on and be reborn, only to remember their last life in full. This process of completion is gradual, once the Destiny is finished the Elf develops an etherealness or otherworldly quality as their spirits burn brighter and stronger than their bodies can endure. Essentially this is the undergoing of a living transformation from beings of flesh and blood to beings of spirit and light called ‘Shimmering’. To complete ones destiny is to have lived up to the aims of the Gods and the Elf is praised with joy and pride by family and acquaintances.  To go through the living transformation to a Lucent is revered, and the transition is gradual enough that the family suffering is minimal and the passing is peaceful.

Loss of the will to Live (Fading)If the Destiny is not completed yet, the soul spark begins to weaken beyond an Elf’s twelve thousandth year. The vitality will begin to drain and desire for physical life and joy will pass. Called ‘Fading’ for the slow dim of strength and joy of body and spirit, in the case of the ancients this is from watching the world go on in progression only to be left behind. The Th’ies will consume the body far more rapidly than during a ‘Shimmering,’ as the desire for life and joy is gone. Once the ancients are pure soul, they have no desire for bodies, a new life, or mastery of body and mind. They search for the forgotten, the ancient and the beautiful of the world.

However for the young, ‘Fading’ occurs in a situation of distress such as the loss of a loved one to violence, torture or rape. The energies of life are captured and placed within a leaf, and now the Elf is mortal. No longer are they immune to sickness and disease from the weakened state of their soul. If the leaf is destroyed the Elf too will die, and it is said that to ‘Fade’ is not a choice. ‘Fading’ is not a choice for the ancients who watch the world go unchanging; however, it is a choice for the young. Hardly ever has such a drastic decision been undone before the soul eats the strength of the body and the Elf burns out, in concept. Like a star.

Bonding:

There is a practice among the Sere'th, sacred. Very rarely, an Elve or half Elve will form a mystical and unbreakable bond with another being, whether elf, human or otherwise; as this person becomes their one love and mate. Some signify this bonding through the giving of gifts designed to demonstrate one's love. Others merely forge the bond quietly, without any outward signs. Whatever the process through which this bond is formed, the Sere'th involved and their chosen now know each other's every memory, and can sense the strong emotions of each other. They feel the joys and sorrows of the other, their triumphs and angers as well, even at times their surface thoughts. It is a bond that far transcends human marriage. The Elven bond does not mean that the elves must be monogamous, though some do practice such. Elves do not, for the most part see monogamy as necessary to a loving relationship. This is a lifelong bond and not lightly broken.

A bond can usually be formed only once in an elf's life; very rarely twice. Therefore they are very careful about who they bestow this bond on. The vast majority of elves would not consider bonding with one who is not long lived. However some consider the love they receive form a human worth the sacrifice.

However until such a time as the death of an Sere'th’s bonded love they will not understand death. Not until that moment. If Sere’th suffered the growing infirmities of age, felt the long decline, they would understand both the inevitability and indeed the desirability of the Gift of Men. But they do not, they look upon their love’s imminent passing with Elvish incomprehension.

They do not truly realize the meaning of mortality and the path they have taken until it takes the one they love most. The light shall leave their eyes with the death of their partner, they then have for the first time truly met death, follow shortly behind in their grief, joy of life gone.

Basic Appearance

Elves are tall and slim, standing about 5'6 - 6'2 feet tall and typically weighing 100 to 150 pounds, with elf men the same height and only marginally heavier than elf women. They are graceful but frail. Their hair and eye color depend on the breed of lve. Elves have no facial or body hair. Elves possess unearthly grace and fine features. Many humans and members of other races find them hauntingly beautiful. The bones of Elves are only a third as dense and far more fragile to the touch then a humans. In holding an Elf’s hand as though one could break the fingers or wrist very easily. Contrary to human skeletal structure breaking the same joint or bone continually would not weaken it but strengthen it for the Elves. Elves are not a modest people and though they wear clothes around other races, nudity is not a shock to them. The body is sacred and clothing is worn for utility and propriety, not modesty. An elf reaches adulthood at about 200 years of age and can live forever if not raped, killed in combat or choose to fade.

Elves do not sleep, as members of other races do. Instead, an elf meditates in a deep trance for four hours a day. An elf resting in this fashion gains the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep. while meditating, an elf does not dream, and is always vigilant. The Common word for an elf's meditation is "Reverie", as in "four hours of reverence."

IIf deeply wounded, over 50% of the Elve's Health is depleted the Elve will enter a deep human sleep that will leave them vulnerable to attack, this may also bring about dreams which Elves never otherwise have.

Elves foremost diety is Sila Vor Lady of the Stars and Elven Kind.
